Default 2005 versus 2006 models - 139FK

So I'm trying to insure my new trailer and I'm running into a few snags. No one can seem to determine what year it is. The decal on the side is completely faded.

The dealership says 2006 and I'm sure they got that from the previous owner.
The insurance company ran the VIN by Cruiser and says it's a 2005.

For some reason this is causing a HUGE issue with insurance coverage... and I cannot see how or why... but whatever.

I was wondering if you guys could help me determine what exactly I have. What can I look for? Valance material patterns? Is there a VIN checker?

This is a stupid problem.

This one works:
https://vin.cdan.dot.gov/VIN/VINPrefix.aspx
I ran mine through it and it came back with the correct info.

However the 10th number in the VIN is 5... so that does mean 2005.

I'm going to have to re-do all my paperwork with the state, title, licensing, etc... what a pain!

Wow that is strange. Mine came back as a a 21 ft CruiserRV trailer MR 2009 which is correct. FWIW the 10th digit in my vin is a 9 which does match the model year but who knows.

It's usually stamped on the inside of the A frame somewhere, but again, who knows.

Our '05 has the VIN number stamped on the top of the rail beside the battery tray.
The 10th figure is a 5 and our ID decal shows a manufacture date of 02/05/05.

BTW,
Our VIN also came back as a motorcycle from Corbin motors...

The whole jist of this is how my insurance company somehow thinks I'm trying to scam them... like what does a year do for anything?

Let's say I wanted to lie, I would certainly pick an even older date to keep the premiums down. I certainly would not say it's a year newer... that would slightly increase my cost.

But, yeah... I'm a criminal mastermind. "I'll save $3 or $4 dollars a month on my premiums, muahahaha!!"

You made me think of Snidely Whiplash..... curling his mustache ends....

I think a lot of people now-a-days are trained to enter information into a software program and read back the results. There's not much understanding beyond the computer screen. Whether you're talking to an insurance agent or an auto parts counter person, if it's not in the software they don't know what to do.

Anyway, did you find the VIN stamped on the frame? Untie Nell from the tracks and get her to help look.....

Dude... you have no idea... I got a flat tire while wheeling my Jeep over the 4th. I tried to order new tires, 5 of them because JEEP (my spare is old) and the website says the tires I want won't fit my Jeep, and so I cannot order them.

So what have I been driving on for the past 12 years?

Instead, I call. I explain the situation to the kid. He types all my info in, brings up my account, sees that I've ordered those tires before, twice before in fact... then tells me he can't sell them to me because a warning message came up saying they don't fit.

Yes. I understand they aren't a stock tire. Jeep didn't get stock 33 inch tires. So it's not a size they have on file... however I assure you 33 inch tires fit because I'm currently driving on them.

He finally relented and ordered them in, I can promise you I'm going to have the same conversation when I bring my Jeep in to get them changed.

He also asked why I needed 5 instead of 4... again... Jeep Wrangler. Full size spare. I'm replacing all the tires I bought in 2014 because it's time.

I swear, I'm so done with this year.

Confirmed the VIN on the trailer and it is a 2005... so yeah I've got some updating to do.

When we were searching for a 139 my unconfirmed research told me that 2005 was the last year of the jalousie windows. I'm not 1000% sure about that as the builders most likely swapped over whenever the supply of windows changed and it could have been mid-year.
Your rig has siding and mine is fiberglass. I'm not sure if they changed production at some point in '05 or if it was always buyers choice. The siding models are lighter by quite a bit and easier (somewhat) on the axle and TV. Cruiser RV specs make no distinction on weight between the two but I've read it can be 150 to 200 pounds.

Good luck with the paperwork.

I should have said the 139s with siding are somewhat lighter than the 139s with fiberglass AND the wood framing (such as our unit). I'm not sure about what, if any, weight difference in the fiberglass/aluminum of later years but I would think they would be lighter than the wood.
If someone will organize a rally I'll bring some scales.....

The year is on the title you received when you purchased the trailer.

I insured our 08 X160 and all they asked was yr, vin, and value, the main interest was how much coverage, so tell them to insure it as whatever yr they wish but have an agreed upon amount of coverage. AND, if you are towing it in Ga. and are in an accident, coverage for liability is provided by your vehicle's coverage.
I got $8K coverage for $190 annually through Ga Farm Bureau.

I'm thinking that the "Model Year" is the date that used for title/registration and insurance purposes. That will be the date reflected by the 10th digit in the VIN. I suspect that, like automobiles, the date (year) of manufacture many time falls in the year prior to the model year. The Vehicle Information sticker on my FF shows a Date of Manufacture of 07/14/06. My State issued Title states the model year is 2007 and the 10th digit of the VIN confirms it. Since the date format (as indicated in one of the replies to this thread) is Month/Day/Year, my FF was built in the middle of the Summer 2006. I don't exactly know when the change over to the next model year occurs but it seems to be before mid-July!
Like Eagle has stated, the date on the Title is the one the insurance company wants. Titles are legal documents. Sellers must provide signed Titles to buyers. Buyers submit the seller's Title with registration forms to get a "new" Title. I can't imagine the insurance company taking issue with dates that match those on a Title that's confirmed by the VIN.
