Default Anyone changing camping plans due to COVID-19

Not sure how the COVID-19 will alter or deter the plans had for a number of outings was thinking of taking this summer.

As of now, doesn't sound feasible to go places where the campground are crowed.

Your thoughts?

I would stay away from crowded campgrounds, just as a matter of practicing social distancing. Same as staying away from crowded restaurants or stores.

Our usual spots are pretty open so you can easily keep a good distance from others. Which is why we go there in the first place. So probably won't be changing plans, unless the parks close or quarantines get imposed.

In the meantime I'll keep lots of soap nearby for hand washing.

Not sure a crowded campground would be a problem since most campsites are 30 feet or more apart. Unless you invite other campers to your site, you can do social distancing without much a problem.

There are some, in the real popular spots, that pack you in like sardines. I stayed at one in Tombstone several years ago where the next rig was only about 10 ft away. More like a parking lot than a campground. But it was right in the middle of all the action & events so pretty crowded. Won't be back there.

I'm mostly a boondocker. We practice "anti-social distancing."

I had planned to check out a number of gun shows but sadly, they are cancelling them like most everything else.

For those who can't find toilet paper, disinfecting wipes, bottled water, paper towels etc. now you know how the firearm owners felt when ammunition was in such short supply several years ago.

Staying prepared, have ample supplies of those items people can't find on the store shelves available on hand.

We have reservations to visit some state parks in S.C. next month in our camper van. Now, if we go, we'll be taking the 139 instead. So far state parks in GA and S.C. are still open. There's usually room to relax.

Just read on another forum that in California, reservations at RV camping sites is up about 4 - 5% from normal.
Maybe people want to get out of the large metro areas? Also guess whole state is mostly on lockdown/restricted travel but ??

The bug has changed our plans, for sure. We thought that we could escape the madness by boondocking. But that means we have to go into town each weekend to dump the tanks and get groceries -- lots of "points of contact" with asymptomatic carriers. And we have to gas up more frequently.

By contrast, at home we only have to go shopping once every couple of weeks. We use almost no gasoline. We are really isolated from potential carriers.

And, most crucially, if one or both of us comes down with the bug, we have a stick house with full hookups and comfortable facilities. And we live near several good hospitals.

So we are staying put, even though the boondocks are calling us to the back-country.

It seems like this virus is impacting nearly every aspect of 'everyday life' for all and will have some 'life style' changing results.

Stay healthy and safe.

I had reservations in Panama City Beach Florida at state park in late April. They cancelled me due to the virus.

Some AZ state parks are still open, but all events like group campouts, guided hikes & tours, etc. have been cancelled through at least May 8th. The parks that are closed are ones that are geared towards historical buildings & such as well as all of the gift shops are closed. Parks with camping and hiking trails where social distancing is easy are still open. At least for now.

Exclamation

We just went under a "shelter in place" order this afternoon so our plans are now on hold.

With so many town on lockdown, travel will be severely impacted.
Read CDC issuing new guidelines in a week that may require anyone outside to wear a mask.
I don't have a listing but know.....
Denver is on lockdown
Oklahoma City and Tulsa going on lockdown by tomorrow

I'm afraid this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Johns Hopkins posts a pretty good tracking summary. US cases still on the steep part of the curve, having doubled in the last 3 days. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashb...23467b48e9ecf6
Stay safe everyone.
