Default Good Sam Club worth it? Others?

We're kinda new to the camping scene, and we're in a sort of "sponge mode", soaking up ideas and advice from others with more experience. What do folks think about the Good Sam Club or other RV-related clubs? They don't cost much, but do you really get anything by joining?

We really like finding out-of-the-way parks with (usually) full hook-ups, decent-sized lots, and peace and quiet. We don't really care about lakes or ocean views, nor do we seek out the social life that much. We like to set up, settle in, start a fire, drink a beer, char some animal flesh, and relax. What's the best way to find these places?

If you live near a Camping World and can get the membership for a discount, then maybe. I think I got two years for $25 and have received at least that much in coupons. But remember that Camping World charges more for items than you would pay on Amazon.

We had it last year. Only used the discount at Camping World a couple of times, never for camping. But everyone is different in their styles. We never use full hookups, only electric. There are many phone apps that can help you find campgrounds.
I like Allstays and Park Advisor and in Michigan here I use Recreation.Gov for State Parks. If you travel around a lot you might like Escapees or Passport America for their discounts. We don't need Good Sam for RV towing since we have through our insurance.
And yes, Camping Worlds prices are higher, even with the GS discount. They are the same company.

I've been a member for years and it works for my situation. There is a Camping World literally across the street from where I work so it's pretty handy to get stuff without waiting for shipping. Especially with the 10% discount. They also have sales & sometimes free shipping that can make them comparable to amazon occasionally. Other useful perks are gas discounts at Pilot & Flying J, some campground discounts and you get a free copy of Trailer Life Magazine each quarter.

So if that works for your situation it's worth it.

Downside is you get a ton of junk mail for their insurance & roadside assistance plans.

If you are just wandering, one of the phone apps previously mentioned is helpful. We have a mid price range Garmin Nuvi and it has a nice search function with built in places of interest. It is very helpful for finding parks of all kinds, places to eat, museums, etc.

If you are going on a planned trip, early research on the internet is most helpful.

Check the camping discount rates. Good Sam is 10% off ~ not much but the magazine is interesting, road service for more $$ is not needed and their ins. is higher than some.

Passport America is 50% discount on camping fees so best discount.

Some offer discounts but they are NOT given on weekends or holidays.

There are options and choices ~ whatever works for you.
