Default Looking at a used 2012 189FBS...over head bunk question...

I really like the floorplan and layout of the 189FBS but there is one thing that loses me...the flip down bunk bed over the queen bed.

It seems like the cabinets on the bunk bed are shallow. Do they pop open when you put the bunk bed down?

Is the flip down bed an annoyance or nice thing to have?

Is it easy to remove?

Anything else I should pay close attention to?

Thanks!

The doors on my 189FBR bunk never popped open, even when my son was sleeping up there.

Occasionally there were clearance issues if I was rolling over, sat up quickly, or had company.

Otherwise it's fine. The 189 worked great for me for six laps around the country.

We completely removed the bunk bed and put up a cargo net for bedding in its place.

I found the bunk over the queen bed to be an annoyance and claustrophobic, so I cut it up and made a storage shelf over the end of the bed. Now am able to sit up in bed.

We own that exact model and year. Because it is just the two of us, we NEVER put the bunk down. The thin mattresses are in the garage and we use the cabinets and space for much-needed clothes storage. We don't like the low ceiling created by the cabinet/bunk, but have gotten used to it. There is a lot to like about that little motel room on wheels. I really like the 7' width especially when there is a flush-floor slide for expansion.

Yep same here. Removing it only took about 15 minutes, and if the day comes I sell the trailer, I'll simply reinstall it.
