Wow, all your photos are great and the color is fantastic; mine are often washed out... All my old camera gear is film cameras and a little phone camera... Sooo, I finally broke down and bought a little bit better DSL...

Not much action this year... A messed up knee and a scroll of Honey-Do's...
(Glucosamine & Chondroitin morning and night along with a more alkaline diet has the old knee almost like new...

Anyway, this was taken in March 2016 taking a "See if your legs still work" break...

Yep, they worked and I shot this with the cell phone... Our TV and FF parked in alongside I-10 about an hour west of Tucson, AZ with the majestic Picacho Peak as the back drop...

John, I will let you in on a little secret -- yes, a DSLR helps the photos a lot. But if you shoot in "raw" format, and then use Lightroom for editing, the colors will get a lot brighter and the picture gets sharper.

Lightroom (an Adobe product) is like Photoshop, only a lot easier and simpler. Unlike Photoshop, you can't add people who weren't there or edit out things you don't want. It can be abused -- if you push the settings too far, the colors look unnatural. I try to use Lightroom to make the image look exactly the way it did in real life.

My guess is that professionals prefer Photoshop. I have tried it, but the learning curve was too steep for me.

Well, after almost a year with no activity, I am going to try to revive this thread. On every trip, we try to get a shot of our little "grand-trailer" in a nice campsite. This was taken in the Sawtooths in August, a few days before the eclipse:

I'm hoping to post a few more shots from that trip over the next several days -- we were camping for a month, and there are some other decent photos among the hundreds of not-so-great shots.

This was taken by the light of the full moon (which is just out of the frame, above the upper right corner of the shot). We were boondocking on the western edge of the Desolation Wilderness, near Lake Tahoe:

It will be interesting to see how this shot looks after posting -- I processed it through an HDR app, to try to get more contrast between the light and the shadows, without losing too much detail.

That looks pretty good -- not perfect. If you click on the image to enlarge it, you can see some grain, but that's ok.

And this was taken just before sunrise in the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest. We were boondocking northwest of Mono Lake. If you sniff your monitor hard enough, you should be able to smell the knee-high sagebrush in the foreground:

Back-tracking a little (to November of 2016), this was in Sequoia National Forest, once again while boondocking:

OK, one more and that's all for now, I promise. This was taken in Idaho, north and west of Stanley. We are in our "snacking chairs" in the shade in front of the trailer -- the late afternoon snack and beverage ritual is a key part of camping, after a long day of hiking. This shot is not particularly scenic, but it captures the feeling of boondocking -- we are in the middle of nowhere, no neighbors, miles from pavement, listening to the silence:

And if you are wondering who took the shot, we put the camera on a tripod and triggered it with a cheap radio controller. It's better than putting the camera on a ten second timer and then running like crazy to get into the shot.

This is my standard trip, a weekend at the race track in my Fun Finder XT-200 with a business wrap the the previous owner put on (and is a pain to get off). Heading out again tomorrow for the last round down at Houston. This pic was from Hallett, OK earlier this year.

And here is what the bikes are doing when not resting by the trailer:

Yikes! snlsmith, is that you on that bike?? It sure looks like your number. I had one biker tell me that "I know I am having fun when I can see sparks coming up from my knee."

Double yikes!

Yeah, that's me. That's where all of my money goes and right now, all I use the trailer for, although a family camping trip has been discussed.

Default Parked in front of our new home....

No, not really. This is our dearly departed 2006 X-189FB in Ferndale, CA.
Would be nicer if Dan shot it with his expert camera skills....

So JB, I took that as a challenge -- so I downloaded your photo, massaged it a little in Lightroom, and here is the edited version -- let's see if it really looks any different when posted. If it does, I will follow up with a quick description of what Lightroom did:

OK -- it looks a little different, and here's how: I first realigned the house to the true horizon. Then I darkened the clouds so they would not wash out the rest of the shot. Then I restored the colors of the house to compensate for the cloudy weather. I spotlighted you in the driver's seat, and punched up the lighting on the trailer. Five minutes of fun!

So that is my dirty little secret -- my photos are the same as yours. But then the software comes to my rescue. There are a lot of things about the computer age I don't like, but I really like what computers have done for photography.

Dan, did Lightroom come with your camera software or do you pay by the month? I like the way you can target specific areas. I usually use Gimp for editing (because it was a free download) but it doesn't do everything.

Marti, I bought the program outright. There is a learning curve (how to "paint" specific areas with light and so forth), but it is a lot of fun.

Our road trips were somewhat curtailed in June and July. While in Florida in June I decided to have a mild stroke. They called it a TIA, very mild but required some surgery to clean some arteries and kept me off-line for a few weeks...
Anyway here are the pics I do have of some of our FF trips:
The first was South Carolina and back across to see the Georgia Guide Stones and to our little spot in N.GA at Hiawassee.
The fourth pic is at Space Camp near Huntsville. We had heard a bunch about it so we went for a few days. It's an older campground and most of the sites, while separated nicely, are not very deep.
The last pic shows the amount of leveling we had to do on the site. Not all were this bad, we had agreed to the smaller site because we knew we would fit.
We made another trip to John C. Campbell Folk School if I can find the pics.
