Default Trip report: meteor shower and coyotes

We spent several pleasant days in our Fun Finder in the Eastern Sierra, hoping to see the Perseid meteor shower. As it turned out, the meteors were a bit of a bust, due to smoke from forest fires in the Western Sierra. But DW managed to capture a great recording of some howling coyotes – the video clip is in this blog post:

http://danschechter.blogspot.com/201...gust-2015.html

We were hoping to take some pictures of the meteors, but my camera died suddenly and spectacularly the day before the meteor shower. So this is the only picture that I took that captured a meteor, and it was by accident – the meteor is the little yellow streak at the left of center, just above the horizon:

I just got a new (used) camera, so maybe another year I will get my "meteor shot." Oh, well. We had fun, anyway.

So awesome--as per usual! I want to be THERE!

You two should start your own Camping Life Magazine! If your pictures and adventures don't get people out camping, I'm not sure what else would.

Dan's photos are always inspirational, especially the night shots. I love the way he sneaks the FF into a shot when he can. The one above is particularily awesome. Way to go Dan

Thanks for the kind words -- and yes, I try to include the Fun Finder as "foreground interest." Since both of our kids have decided not to have children, that's really our "grand-trailer." So we take a lot of photos of it!

Amazing pictures! What camera do you use? I love the vibrant night colors. Like someone else said, we need to make a trip west to some of that free camp land. Nothing like that around here that I know of.

Marti, the night shot was taken with an ordinary Pentax DSLR, set at an ISO of 3200 for 25 seconds, on a tripod. But the camera died the next day, so I have just replaced it with a used Canon T3i. I sure hope it can take those long night exposures -- we will see.

I bet you can. I have a Canon T3i, but have just been learning how to use it.

That made me laugh out loud...I always hear about pets being "grandchildren", but never a trailer. You are definitely one-of-a-kind!

Yes, that picture above is one of my favorites!
