Default A site to fine camping sites

I'm wondering if there is a site for a person to locate places to stay along their travels. Not the koa's camping grounds or stuff like that.
Is there a listing or a site telling people about a place they known is a good mtn or wooded area to stay at. Planning on leaving VT end of Sept. Heading south then west.

Default Great Campsites

I usually do a Google Maps search with the terms "national forest campsites". These are great - many very close to Interstates, very reasonable prices.

There are National Parks that offer camping as well. Check in to Access Passes if you're old enough or a 100% Disabled Veteran. These grant free access to the National Parks and 50% off of the campsite rates!

Then try searching for state campgrounds - also great sites, reasonably priced. Some charge a "daily use" fee in addition to the price for a night to camp. But still cheaper than an asphalt parking lot KOA.

Lastly I search for city/county campgrounds. Also great finds.

Most do no have WIFI, laundry, or pools. Many have playgrounds for kids, restrooms (some with shower facilities).

Have camped this way from TN heading West for 4 years now.

When we started to travel I used some of these for research. There is tons of info on all sorts of government facilities.

http://www.us-parks.com/park-locator.html

Look at the bottom of the page here. There is a row of icons that take you to specific agencies info.

Here's private site (not government created)

And then there's this one relating to free camping around the country.

Default Allstays Camping & RV

http://www.allstays.com/Campgrounds/

If you have an iPhone or iPad, this, in my opinion, is the best camping resource out there - it shows private campground, NFS, BLM, COE, Military (all including max rig length and lots of other information), steep grade, low clearance, propane dealers, Walmarts ("ask" and "not allowed"), Elk's, rest stops, turn outs - you name it, it's on there.

Plus, if there's too much information, and say your preference is COE parks, you can easily filter everything else but COEs out.

I just recently tried to help a friend with the online version and told her that the iPad app is much easier to use.

It's not 100% accurate, but dang, it's good.

Yep, I agree that allstays is my default-go-to app. Heck, it even lists walmart ask-to-park locations.

Hi greenmtnman,
I realize I am late with this comment, but I hope it will help you in the future.
I use many of the recommended sites/tools, my gps, and Good Sam ... As a member of Good Sam a person can subscribe to many other things from Insurance to Trailer Life magazine and receive discounts at Camping World Stores (I DO NOT work for and am not affiliated with Good Sam other than being a member).

Hope you had a great trip ...
