Default Mamouth Cave Trip

Next week my wife and I will leave from Kalamazoo MI to Mamouth Cave Kentucky. On the way there and back we will camp in some Indiana state parks.

I visited Mammoth Cave back in the late 80's.

It's HUGE and was a great visit. Did not know it had been used during the Civil War to make, if I remember, munitions during the war.

You will enjoy visiting it.

Postponed our mammoth cave trip for one week because of heat. Expected be in the 90's with high humidity this coming week in Kentucky. Just too hot and humid to make it a fun and relaxing trip. Waiting one week will be about 10 degrees cooler.

Not to worry as nothing will change in a week.

In fact, I'm certain nothing in the cave has changed in decades.

Finished the camping trip last week. It was HOT in Kentucky (95+). So hot and dry that there was a camp fire ban throughout the states of Tennessee, Kentucky and southern Indiana. Throw in the fact that there was no electric in the national campground meant we were really glad to get back home at the end of the trip. Overall we put a little more than 900 miles on the trailer and it towed just fine on the new Carlisle HD trailer tires.

Wow, camping when temps are over the 90's isn't for me. Seldom camp anywhere there are no hookups or electricity but do have a pair of Honday 2000i gens if needed.

Have NEVER built a fire at a campground, don't see the point unless going to cook over an open fire...but that's my choice.

BTW - how did you like Mammoth Cave? Walking down the steps into the cave the cool air is noticeable and it's big in there isn't it?
