Default Morning at Wilderness State Park

The morning view is beautiful here at Wilderness State Park which is the most northern park in the lower peninsula of Michigan. About 5 miles west of the Mackinac bridge.

One of our favorites! But the roads getting there are horrendous, though they said they were working on Cecil Bay Rd.

Well, I can say that although the campsite was great, the park itself is falling apart. The shower/rest rooms in the lakeside west loop were closed due to electrical issues. The remaining two shower/rest room facilities were probably built in 1960 and looked like it. Shower stall tile was missing, shower heads were falling off and the toilet seats look like they has 60 years of butts sitting on them. And they were under staffed big time. When we arrived, we found squatters on our reserved campsite and I couldn't get a hold of a ranger to deal with it. Finally I got feed up and moved the tent that was on our site to a different location. My understanding is that they are going to renovate the west loop in the new year, but I heard that before. I will believe it when I see it.

Agree with all! Never saw the toilets. Don't use them but the showers are pretty bad. But at least they had doors unlike Munising Tourist. Wilderness added those full service sites instead of fixing up the original part of the campground. Bad move. The Pines campground (not on the lake) had better bathrooms. We checked them out. But the roads! Even at 15 mph they split open a corner of our old girl! I do like the lakefront there.
