Wow! Just read the bit on Alabama.... The state isn't closing any more parks, in fact they just passed a law last year to insure their parks would be able to stay open and be fully funded. We travel and camp there often and it's a great park system with excellent campgrounds!
The article makes it sound like a dump full of drunks!

That list was done maybe three years ago. They got funding to keep them open I guess. I was impressed by how many full hookup parks they had. Many states have budget woes including my own, Michigan. We buy something called a recreational passport along with our vehicles licenses. That is in addition to our camping fees and any internet registration fee ($8 per reservation). That helped keep our parks open. That site dissed Detroit in my State, something I didn't appreciate.

That state park in Hawaii sounds nice.

We'd make a big splash going there......

All those necessary fees are needed to keep these parks open.

Looks like they need to do some more homework on Arizona Parks.
-annual passes are for park day use only, not camping
-Picacho peak is open year round - always has been
-The parks listed with sewer hookups only have them at a limited # of sites.
-Catalina park is not near the Rincon mountains it's in the Catalina mountain foothills in a Tucson suburb about a half mile from a very busy area with shopping, restaurants, homes, etc. So you'll have the noise and lights from that.
-Dead Horse Ranch is a much nicer park IMHO

Only 14 state parks in Arizona? Limited sewer hookups is pretty much the norm. I think they were just directing people to parks that have some.
All in all I think they give a pretty good review of the parks in their Campendium section. Much better than we could since we haven't traveled nearly as much.

Actually there are 32 state parks in Arizona, but only 15 have camping. Although if this was written a few years back some of the parks were closed due to the economic downturn and only gradually reopened.

Overall this is a pretty nice site with lots of info. I just wouldn't list Catalina as THE state park. Too urban for my taste. Dead Horse Ranch on the other hand is much nicer IMHO.

None of the state parks in SD have water/sewer ~ electric only as some. The water was, well, potable but ...... taste was less than desirable.

After a few times in State parks, we now stay in "commercial" campgrounds with decent tasting water/sewer/electric/cable and usually WiFi.

IF I wanted to "dry camp", I'd still be tenting it with the motorcycle. I got the Toy Hauler to have the motorcycle AND creature comforts.

However, to each their own preference.

Happy camping to all regardless of preferences.

Not our idea of camping. Never watch tv or use any fancy amenities. Don't need sewer or water if they have showers. Our State Park Campgrounds are in beautiful places away from cities so they are generally very peaceful as well. We take our own water. And use a filter and Brita pitcher for drinking.
Some people might just as well go to a motel as buy an RV.

You got that right. Michigan has some really nice State Parks. The only one I really had a problem with was Warren Dunes, where the camping area is located close to the road and they prohibit alcohol in the camping area. I remember about 8 years ago I was camping there with my family and my ministers family. We were having a group dinner with wine and the ranger came by and told us to pour it out. That and a 6 pack of beer. Never have been back there since.

I just found this on alcohol in State Parks. Never knew this except for some beaches. Warren Dunes is mentioned. I wonder if they signal out 'party spots'?

Ha - yeah that one in Hawaii would be a blast - it's on the island of Maui. It's off the "Road to Hana" 64 miles long, 620 curves. Not even sure it's set up for travel trailers.

Sounds like a good place for a motorcycle.

Ha!
I was kidding about sailing it there.....or...running it to the ocean and see if it would float.

There used to be a company on the islands that would rent the VW bus campers. That would be a hoot....
