I do use the cover I never remove it. You can feel the buttons through the cover and my thought is that it protects from sun damage as well as rain not too concerned about the moisture that might be...

Acquired this unit had water leaks I think I did a pretty good repair moved both right and left Corner trim repaired wood, resealed, new screws and molding. Patch and repaint the interior. Can't tell...
