I just bought a 2012 Shadow Cruiser 285 RLS. I had heard that if a camper doesn't come from the factory with a roof ladder, that it is an indication that one shouldn't get on the roof. My 285 RLS doesn't have a ladder but I got up there to put three Maxx Air vent covers on it. I'm telling you that the roof is very strong. I'm a pretty heavy guy too 265lbs. I didn't worry about tearing thru the roof. I'm getting on there again today to wash it. Yep! Just wanted you to know!. El Guapo 8)

I've discovered the same last summer when washing the roof after camping under some pine trees, sap dripped all over.

I found the roof to be just a solid as on any house or 'stick built' building.

There is no issue with getting on the roof of any RV...don't know where you heard a blanket statement like that. All RVs are meant to have their roofing cleaned and access for other maintenance (antenna needs lubrication to keep it from leaking - don't miss that one!, A/C covers need to be removed and the internals cleaned, etc.). The fact that there is no ladder just means that you shouldn't be going up there unless you have a good reason to. The roof is not a storage area (don't even think about putting holes in the roof for a luggage rack) or a seating area at the race track and many manufacturers don't want to spend the money to put the backing (frame supports) in to support a ladder and the expense of the ladder itself.

If you weigh on the "heavy" side, you might consider putting down some plywood to distribute your weight, but, being on the roof is not an issue.

I'm finding that if a trailer didn't come with a ladder, it was a cost-saving measure.
So - my little X210-UDS didn't have a ladder. I travel with a telescoping ladder in the event I need to get up there.
Both me and my brother-in-law walked all over the roof while installing solar panels, fixing the AC, the vent cover upgrades, etc.
