I have an extra nest thermostat sitting around for a year. Without talking about internet reqs, anyone know of its doable or has done it in a funfinder or rv with a similar stock thermostat?

The question in my mind would be 1) can it operate off of 12VDC instead of 24VAC and 2) if the AC & furnace outputs could activate 12VDC circuits. They are very sophisticated devices as I have learned from having one in my home.

It would be easy to determine 1) by connecting the power to 12VDC. If it passes this hurdle then first configure for furnace only and see whether it will control it without latching up (i.e., not turning off). On their website and on the Internet you can find plenty of examples of the wiring of different systems. If you cannot get it to control properly you might have to add a small 12VDC relay so the the Nest turns on the relay coil which in turn swtches the contacts to power the furnace.

Good luck experimenting and please report back your findings if you decide to do so.

I found directions and components online. I'm going to give this a go and get back with everyone on it. I've had this 3rd gen for a while sitting on the shelf. Whats cool is that I have a zone temp extension for it to. So replacing the main thermo, then adding the extra zone to the bedroom so it can read that separately and make sure me and the wife are heated or cool to temp.
