I see from the Cruiser RV website that there is a new line of Fun Finders for 2017.The F214WSD (our trailer) is gone, and there are some different floorplans. The new online brochure does not give many details about the standard and optional features and has very few inside photos. The brochure download and the dealer locator do not work. Is the company having problems?
 
Much bigger than ours, and all are at least 4000# dry weight! I think they are going for the big bucks spenders now and realizing that the small trailer market is getting saturated. But actually, I guess, most tow vehicles bigger than ours could pull 4000? The mini Winnebagos are similar to ours but more pricey too.
 
How could the small trailer market be saturated? Almost nobody makes 12 or 13 foot trailers, like my X-139. If and when we need a new trailer, I am going to have to modify a cargo trailer, I guess, if I want to stay with a very small unit (which I do).

So often, people stop us and say "where can I get a trailer like that?" I have to tell them that there are used units available, but not new ones.

I agree with everyone -- to have a big caravan, you need a big truck. We have the same 139x, and a 2006 Nissan Frontier, and on our maiden voyage (from where we purchased it in Ventura, to home, in West Los Angeles) it seemed a real trudge up the hill in Camarillo. Jim was saying we may need another truck -- and we just invested in the FF! (We are not getting another truck. Yikes.)

The smaller ones -- the teardrops -- are everywhere -- because anything can pull one. There are a lot of companies making them. There's one company that is making a small trailer, based in Silver Lake. I think they are called Happier Campers. But they are pretty pricey.

In regards to how few manufacturers are making the smaller trailers, that is certainly true of US manufacturers, but in the UK and Australia there seem to be some SUPER cute small trailers.

I don't know if the Cells (FF in Australia) are manufactured in Indiana and shipped there or made there.
 
Other countries also got the smaller cars and vans before us too. Some of them are so cool. I guess they think all Americans want big things. We pull our 189fbr with a Jeep Liberty 3.7 V6. It's working here in Michigan but in places with bigger hills and mountains..nah, But, it's what we have and we two track a lot and get a lot of snow so the four wheel drive is good. Is yours the 4.0 V6?

I know, right? When we were in Ireland last year, the cars HAD to be small because of the small cars. We saw NO SUV like cars or big trucks, so if anything was going to be pulling a caravan, it would have to be by one of those cars.

Michigantraveler, my husband Jim says our 2004 Nissan Frontier is a 3.3 SE V6.

Well the roads in Europe are pretty narrow and often lined with stone walls. Love that! So smaller vehicles can maneuver better over there.
 
We just lost our beloved 2012 FF214WSD to Hurricane Matthew's floodwaters. Now I'm just learning the Cruiser RV folks are not making that model anymore...go figure! I just looked at all the other models, but none are exactly what I want. Does anyone know why they discontinued the 214WSD? It was the perfect size and had everything we needed!!
 
Nadine, if your truck could pull the trailer up that grade in Camarillo at 40 mph, you are good to go -- that is as steep as almost anything you will encounter. There are a few steeper roads in the Sierras (like Sonora Pass), but they are very rare, and you take those hills at 20 mph, at most!!
 
Suggestion for Casadelydia - check with other Cruiser dealers, you may find a 2016 still on the lot somewhere. The 2016 has some additional features that were not available previously, such as a ladder and a rear view camera. I agree that the 214WSD is the perfect model for two (retired) people, the full width bathroom and the rotating TV sold it for us.

Wow, how adorable is that?? VERY cute.
I am not crazy about one thing (and it's an obvious one) and that is the port-a-potty thingy. I think it would be fine for middle-of-the-night urination, but if you were boon docking more than a couple of nights, I suspect that would get old quickly.

We binged watched Adria Altea 4Four Go videos last night. The best feature is the amazing window, which is huge and has a skylight. So much light! Adria Altea 4four Go Signature review - Adria caravans | Practical Caravan I am in love!

Hi,

Well, that is very good to know, thanks!! We're doing our inaugural trip on Saturday for our anniversary (this is the oft-mentioned Dockweiler jaunt) and I am super excited.

Do you have any favorite local-ish weekend kind of spots (from West LA) that you recommend? I would love your take. I'm especially interested in beach spots.
 
Nadine, weekend beach spots are hard to find in SoCal! There's Bolsa Chica (good surf), and Paradise in Oceanside (very good surf but expensive). In Big Sur, there is Limekiln and Kirk Creek and Plaskett -- not quite on the beach, but walking distance.
