Black tank indicator always reads full

I guess we have toilet paper or something getting on the sensors for the black holding tank as it always reads full even after i have just dumped it.
Anybody got any ideas on how to stop this happening? Or a really good additive for the holding tanks to assist with breaking down the paper etc?

Just wondering: when you empty the black tank are you making sure that it's at least 2/3rd full? (Flush repeatedly to add water if necessary.) Mine also occasionally doesn't indicate it's empty after I dump, but by the time I get home, it does go back to reading empty (or close to empty).

Also, at the end of the season I add one gallon of warm/hot water with some liquid fabric softener (1/2 to 1 cup or so). This cleans up everything nicely--I guess it's slippery and any paper hung up in the tank sort of disengages. You could try this after you flush--at the dump station--and then drive it home (the driving sloshes it around.) Then empty this mixture from your black tank when you get home before you add new chemicals for the next trip...

Another "scrubbing" remedy...

3-4 bags of ice before leaving the campground for the next...the ice will "scrub" the walls and floors of the tank and as it melts, will help to keep it suspended (sloshing around) until you dump it at the next site.

As for "dissolvers" or stuff to add; most are ineffective, some are even banned from a lot of campgrounds. These digesters require time and lots of it, not normally found in RV tank usage and they are actually counter productive to the natural enzymes found in the black tank. The only "process" that seems to have good results is the "Geo method". I've never used it; plenty of water in the tank, dump, fill the tank about half full again and dump, then let the rinser run for a while. Your black tank is a temporary storage tank and shouldn't be confused with the holding tank of a septic system where you months for a digester to do its thing.

Yes i always let it get full before i dump it as thats what i have always been told to do.
I did hear about the ice trick before but have never tried it.
We are going out for the weekend next week so i will need to give that a shot.

Ours did the same thing, always read full or half full. This summer when were in Idaho I purchased the "quicky flush" tank rinser, I installed it and it works great, nothing better than a nice and clean poo tank.

Yep...the best thing to do is add a flusher. When I had my 210WBS, I installed a Tornado rinser in both the black and the gray tanks. Never had an issue with the sensors. My new Cougar came with a black rinser, nothing for the gray or galley tanks, but, that's a mod coming up in the future...at least I'm covered on the black, which is the most important.

Hi Guys; Bought the back flush kit this weekend and will give it a go on the next trip out which should be soon.
Dont have too many weekends left to get out and about here in Northern Alberta as the end of the season is almost upon us.
