Manufacturer: Cruiser RVSUMMARY:
Cruiser RV is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 Fun Finder, Shadow Cruiser, Fun Finder Xtra, Viewfinder, Signature, Radiance, Enterra recreational trailers manufactured January 1, 2006, through April 25, 2013 and equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. It may be possible to remove the key from the lock in a way that potentially jams the deadbolt.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. A person inside the travel trailer at the time will then be locked in and be unable to exit the vehicle without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.
REMEDY:
Cruiser RV will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in January 2014. Owners may contact Cruiser RV at 1-260-562-3500 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505.
NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

It says the owner notifications started last month. Anyone recieved a recall notice?

Not yet and my model is included, tried calling both companies and they are not answering the phones and mailboxes are full, not surprising. Although, by the time you take it in and deal with the hassle you can buy a replacement for $30

I got a response from cruiser RV....all I can is good luck to us in getting a fix, they were absolutely clueless. Again, you can fix yourself for under $35 plus 5 minutes of your time. I sent the entire recall notice, reference numbers models etc,,, and specifically asked when and how these locks were to be fixed, response below.

"Would you be so kind to give us a little more information on what you are exactly needed. Thank you."

The vast majority of RVs are made using the Fastec lock cylinder and mechanism. Mine (Keystone Cougar 318SAB 5th wheel) was in the same recall, but, Keystone's products were issued the recall notice late summer/early fall of 2013. Many people were reporting problems with trying to contact them via email and were quite frustrated. The size of the recall is huge for a relatively small company and they are swamped by the numbers of lock cylinders needed. It took me twice to get through by phone (a lot of people stated they couldn't get hold of them by phone; they were calling on Saturday...they are only open Monday through Friday). On the second attempt, I got a nice young lady that took my information in about 5 minutes. Fastec was very good about getting me the replacement cylinder for my one door and I had them make 4 additional keys (I had to pay for the extra keys) at the same time. Took about a week to get the cylinders and keys and the replacement took all of 2 minutes. You then have to send them the bad lock cylinders and the "master removal key" in the provided postage paid envelope. By this time, the volume of the recall probably has Fastec snowed under and your best bet for getting anything done quickly is to keep trying to call them.

Here is their website:

Fastec Industrial

Their hours of operation and phone number are under "contact" and there is a link on their home page for the recall information and the lock numbers affected by the recall.

Not a big deal and just a minor annoyance. The locks aren't dangerous as long as the lock is used as intended. I didn't even know there was a problem; I'd never attempted to remove the key in the mid-position...could have gone the rest of my life with old locks and never had a problem. Have patience and keep smiling and keep in mind that it isn't a major safety issue if you keep using the locks as they were intended and keep trying to get hold of them. Bear in mind they are a small US company and they are doing their best to do the right thing. In fact, they instigated the recall; it wasn't pushed on them after the fact.

Shadow:

Thanks for posting the list of key numbers.

Saved me a lot of time!

I checked my key numbers and they are not on the list so I'm good.

:D

I had both doors that wouldn't work brand new. Dealer mailed me a replacement lock set. I will look when I get a chance to see if these are affected.

Fastec Recall Experience

I have just come back to WA state from Tucson, AZ and Palm Springs areas, where I, for the first time, experienced this deadbolt issue. I left at dusk to run an errand and locked my wife in the RV from the outside. I returned with my hands full, tapped on the window and she then proceeded to try and open the door with the red deadbolt latch without any success. I could not understand what was going on until I saw the above postings on this subject. My key is stamped HF349. Having now tested the key lock, the deadbolt is rendered inoperative from inside if the key is turned completely to the left and then removed rather than being removed in the vertical position at twelve o,clock.
I have called Fastec at the posted number and the mailbox is completely full. Cruiser is unresponsive at their parts department. I don't think there should be such a cavalier attitude about a potential safety problem. I know this isn't in the category of GM, but I wouldn't choose to climb out the emergency exit during a kitchen fire, if I had the choice of throwing a blanket over my head and going out the front door!!

Why would you lock your wife inside the trailer?? And when you get this fixed, is she going to lock you out?? ;)
I have got to say that this did not make for happy camping as she was always wary about being locked in again! So, we made sure we were both on the outside of the trailer when the deadbolt was engaged.
FYI, I have now applied formally on the Fastec site for recall status and the new cylinder should be shipped out in 3-4 weeks.

we had this lock fail on a friends unit, in -10 degree weather while snowmobiling in upsate NY, but we were locked out. were able to pry the door enough to slide deadbolt over with a screwdriver.

Our lock broke the first trip out. Luckily we had two doors. We stopped at the factory the next time we were in the area and they gave us a new one...no problem.

Fastec Contact

It has been several months without any reply or mail out from Fastec. I contacted CruiserRV and they were surprised with the inaction. They gave me a contact number: 423-434-2744. The 800 number is not active. Fastec Industrial admitted they were way behind the curve on this problem. Given the date of my submittal though, the representative assured me that I would get a mail out within the week following the 4th of July. Squeaky wheel gets the oil? I will keep you posted.

I went it the web site and filled out the form letting them know it had been several months and no parts. got the replacement cylinder 2 weeks later

Fastec Recall

It is a couple of weeks late, but the Fastec kit has finally arrived. Looks like I'll be forwarding on to the new owners.

Good Luck to You All! Happy Trails!

I read this a couple of weeks ago but the number on my key isn't on the list. However, this afternoon, I unlocked the door and the cylinder came out with my key.
