The emergency window latch on my '06 189 FBR is broken. The handle pulled out of the bracket on the window. Where can I find a replacement set?

P139 - That is a reaal great mod. My handle came off of the base portion that attaches to the window frame. How did you attach the lid support to the window? Also, mine doesn't have the red "loop" that yours does. I bookmarked the blog so I can refer back to it. Any more info on the making of it will be appreciated. Thanks.

I fabricated an aluminum bracket so that the handle attached to the window. The bracket screws into the window frame. If I recall correctly, I cut the aluminum to shape with a hacksaw and filed off the rough edges. Then I used a propane torch to warm the metal so it would bend without crystallizing and breaking.

Once I had fashioned it into the required shape, I drilled holes for the screws with my drill press.

If you can post pictures of what happened to your handle, we might be able to chime in with some suggestions. Good luck!

Here are pics of the window latch & handle. have to find another photo host site since Photobucket got all greedy on us.

I can't see the photos. Maybe try this -- just drop your photo in, copy the URL that pops up, and paste it in your message. This is a free (and safe) app, used by thousands of folks on rv dot net -- you know, the site where everyone offers scathing criticism of every post. I like our forum a lot better.

Anyway, here is the link:

Yep -- I would fabricate a new bracket out of aluminum stock. Then hacksaw off the existing rivet at the end of the bar. Replace it with a small bolt, using a nylon core nut so that you can tighten it just enough (but not too much) while leaving room for rotation.

Designing the bracket will take some three-dimensional design skills -- metal origami. I made a mockup out of cardboard first, just to make sure I had the right configuration.

Note that I am not an experienced metal worker -- just a trial and error guy. Lots of errors, too.

I found a replacement latch on Amazon for $15. Not great reviews, but I figured for $15 it was worth a try. It's supposed to be here Sunday. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks for the help. I posted pics on my little $2500 investment in an album here. Titled 2006 Fun Finder 189FBR.
