First Trip with my Trailer

Well, thanks to all the helpful advice and guidance I managed to get my trailer ready and headed out for my first camping trip in my FF 139X. I managed to get backed into a spot surrounded by trees (a few attempts were required but I didn't hit anything!). I hadn't thought through that backing in would mean that my door wasn't overlooking the lake, but I wasn't about to turn it around at that point. It was a great experience - I loved waking up in the morning and looking out at the blue sky and sunshine (since I hadn't closed the shades). I put coffee on first thing and it perked a lot faster than my little one-burner unit that I used to sit on the picnic table. It was also nice not having to haul my cooler in and out of the car continually (we put all our food away because of bears). I also slept better knowing it was going to be a bit harder for a bear to break in to my trailer than a tent. Driving there and back was quite a bit slower than I am used to driving and I did lug quite a bit going uphill - but I guess that is to be expected.

A photo of my trailer parked at Tarfu Lake in the Yukon Territory. I am just getting out of my kayak to go back to the camp spot.

Wonderful campsite! There is a brilliant professional photographer named Sue Thomas who lives not too far from you -- she is active on the rv.net Canada forum -- and her blog has a lot of great suggestions for campsites. The sky is the limit -- Kluane, the Tombstones, etc.!!!

That's funny that you've seen her photos. I have actually picked some campgrounds based on looking at her photos - Boya Lake in northern BC was one. She does have a great blog - although I've never met her I think she lives in Whitehorse. The Tombstones is on my list for next summer!

It's not a coincidence -- I have always wanted to go to the Yukon, and she is one of the leading nature photographers up there. It would take me two weeks of driving just to get to that amazing area.

John, how is your knee doing? And the remodel? Sorry to jump in here.

Hi Mich...
Thank you for asking and I am sorry I missed your post... They Forum usually highlights any new posts, but I guess something went haywire... probably in my computer...

I went to the Dr. last week and he said some arthritis and knee cartilage crack... :???: They shot my knee full of cortisone and that really helped the pain... ;) I have still been taking it easy and hope it will heal... I have been only mowing once every 7 - 8 days, so you know what that is like...

I replaced the TV antenna on the trailer and I think it is going to be great... I am going to try and get my list of necessity fixes/upgrades done this coming week:

  • Check water in Batteries
  • Install TV antenna direction finder
  • Rinse fresh water system and fill
  • Check Black & Grey Water tanks and drains
  • Replace flex hoses at Propane Tank Regulator
  • Convert new BBQ grill to regulated input with QD
  • Replace Flex hose for BBQ grill/Fire pit
  • Wash trailer outside
  • Replace Trailer Brake Cable with a coiled-cable
  • Replace bath sink faucet, shower hose, and nozzle
  • If I have time, add galley counter extension (So much of these type of mods would be easier if there was anything behind the 1/8" panelling)... I'll probably hinge it to the existing counter and make a telescoping stiff leg
  • I have some ideas to help the cluttered storage box and will wait on the biggies until this Mid-August trip is over
  • My ATV shifted and damaged the rear drop door and I want to find a similar rubber to repair the area after this trip

After I get the Counter Extension installed, I'll shoot some pics of the interior and post to my Gallery...

How are you and Mr. Mich doing??

I was hoping your knee would be a lot better. But glad the injection gave some relief. Wow, that is quite a list! Some good things on there. We really need to detail the outside of our trailer. Not only the dirt roads getting to campsites but the oak trees right here in the yard have been playing havoc with everything. It's kind of tiny droplets of some sticky substance. And dirt sticks to it like a magnet. Anyway. The trailer looks awful. But we really have been enjoying it. We'll be going up to Cross Village to stay in a cabin on Lake Michigan for a couple of nights on Tuesday. Then later in the month we'll be heading up to Tequamenon Falls in the UP with the FF. We want to make good use of it and not just let it sit. Sept3rd is the big trip touring the UP.

Are you serious? If so there must have been millions of them. Everyone has had this in this neighborhood. Anything not covered is sticky...cars, lawn furniture, the trailer, you name it. There was also a weird smell in the air. Thanks for the possibility. Have you experienced this before? We haven't.

Also get those little tiny droplets here in the summer.

I figure they are either from the trees shedding sap off the leaves that floats in the air or the skeeter sprayer going by at night .... or a combination of both.

More pictures please!
Lynn, if you have more pictures we'd love to see 'em! That part of the world is a long way from my normal range.

Another great trip out with the camper. Two fellows in the campground decided they would show me how to unroll the awning. It was quite the performance but they managed to do it. One fellow didn't like the squeaking when I started to lower the stabilizer legs and came over saying "Madame - where is your oil" - and promptly got down and oiled all the legs for me!! Good thing I had just read the manual (again!) before leaving and had bought some silicone spray. I posted a photo to my album - taken at 10 pm - our days are starting to get longer.

Just to add to the thread - we also have sticky stuff all over our trees here too!
