Found a great inexpensive shower head.

I have been frustrated with shower heads that do not turn the water off. I was checking various shower heads and came across this one:

I decided to order it and it came today. I hooked it up to my shower, turned on the pump. A nice flow of water came out and than I switched it off. After a few seconds of water draining out of the head, the flow stopped 100%. I highly recommend this shower head and it was only 11 bucks.

I have that same one. It's soooo much better than the old one. It really does shut the water off completely. On the old one the off switch just made it spray poorly.

The reason that RV showerheads don’t completely shut the water off is to maintain water temperature during the shower. I catch the dripping water in a large pitcher and use it in the toilet.

The reason that RV showerheads don’t completely shut the water off is to maintain water temperature during the shower. I catch the dripping water in a large pitcher and use it in the toilet.

To me this explanation makes no sense. On my trailer I have two one way spring valves on the hot water tank, one going in and one coming out. Therefore there is some resistance on the hot water side for water to flow. What that means is when there is a trickle at the shower head, the cold water flows easier into the head than hot water, hence a dose of freezing water when the shower head is turned back on. However, when water is completely turned off at the head, no water flow is occurring and the water pressure is equalized between the hot and cold, hence a constant water temperature once the shower head is turned back on.

I believe the real reason why the shut off on most shower heads does not turn off completely is to allow water to drain out of the head and hose when the faucet is turned off. This is to avoid contaminating the water system.

That reason never made much sense to me either. I can tell you from personal experience that with this full shutoff shower head, when you I turn it back on the water comes out at the same temperature it was at when it was shut off.

Given the fact that McDonald's got sued for hot coffee, and ladder manufactures get sued for people falling from them, it makes sense that this would be something a manufacture would design into their product to avoid litigation. Perhaps my trailer plumbing is different because I do not have this issue when the shower is shut off for up to 15 minutes. Perhaps if I waited longer, maybe, but I doubt if I would be in the shower that long. As Michigantravele's article points out, the solution to this issue would be to put one way check valves on both the hot and cold water supply lines going to the shower. That would eliminate any chance of hot water migrating into the cold and visa versa.

Ha! You're probably right that it's a liability thing. After all hair dryers have labels that warn you not use them in the shower!

I recently purchased the Oxygenics BodySpa #26781 from the big 'A' and it is as good as the customer product ratings indicated. I like that the shutoff is separate and can be mounted on either end of the hose. I put mine at the faucet end rather than on the spray end which seems more convenient. There is a small drip in the 'OFF' position.

twinster2, does this Camco shower head increase your water pressure in the shower? We put the Oxygenics in our FF and loved the increased pressure. With soft water, you can actually get the soaf off. lol But the head itself stuck out much farther than the original head and we didn't like that. We also didn't like that the holes for the head mount didn't line up with the original shower head mount. How about this one? Do the holes line up the same?

Marti, I mounted the Oxy using the adhesive and only one screw: to the existing bottom hole in the wall and the top hole (behind the swivel) in the Oxy mount. It is sturdy and I didn"t need to add any holes.

No increase in pressure but it does say out of the way and sit in the same holder as the original shower head. I get increase pressure from a new water pump.

Do you know how severe that elderly woman’s burns were from that coffee? Can you imagine skin grafts and constant pain when you’re old? There is a documentary about it. McDonalds at first caught it hard. Why support them?
And the other problem was that the built up pressure was blowing seals. According to one person it happened five times. So Pooh Pooh all you want but don’t assume you are right.

I think we all understands the others position on this, and I will concede that there are times when litigation is necessary. Also in retrospect I should not have used the McDonalds coffee lawsuit as an example.

As for the shower head in question, all I can say with certainty is that it works with my trailer's water system, however, I cannot say it will work with every trailer's water system, therefore buyer beware.

Twinster2 ... with all products, it is, to some extent, buyer beware. Also the Micky D coffee example seemed odd since with the least amount of common sense, fresh ordered coffee is expected to be hot IMHO.

Nevertheless, everyone is entitled to their opinion under our US Constitution and that is a wonderful freedom.

Thanks for the tip, I'm going to buy a new one since mine is getting old, it's yellow and cracked. I usually dry camp so for me I want as low a flow rate as possible so I can make my water last. I usually don't shut off the head, I just soap up first, then turn on the water and shower fast.
