Noticed today that when I put the key in the upper door handle slot and turn it, I can still open the door. The bottom dead bolt works fine.

I am not sure what happens internally when you turn that key that is not working. I am thinking something must have broken off inside that mechanism. Before I drag it again to the dealer for warranty service, maybe I am missing something like a secret shut off that the dealers use when these are in for service.

Any thoughts? Thanks

It could be that something broke inside or maybe it needs lubrication. Try using wd 40 on it and see if it works. May have to just buy another lock setup. Before going to the dealer, I would check eBay and Amazon for one. They are not that hard to put on, kinda like putting on a house door entry door knob/lock.

My suggestion (others may not agree) is never, ever use wd 40 on anything. It is not mfg as a lubricant but as a 'water displacer' which is what the "wd' stand for.

This 'glorified kerosene' is well noted for collecting dirt/dust and creating a horrible gummy mess.

That is all I have to say on that....and, of course, the choice is entirely yours.

WD-40 does not gum up the works. I've used it on model engines that are frozen and it free them up. It is a solvent with lubricating qualities. Plus it will evaporate in a day or so. If you really don't want to use WD-40, than try a silicon spray lubricant.
