Hi Can any techies out there help me with a question? I am going to buy a 2000si generator that comes with a 12 volt battery charger. My question is would it be quicker to charge the rv battery with the built in charger or should I buy a 120 volt charger and plug it into the generator and charge it like that? Thanks for your reply. Salty

If I recall correctly, your trailer has a 55 amp Charger/converter. I think they actually use a pretty good "smart" charger that will boost the output to 14.4V to quickly charge batteries when they are low. Unless you get a pretty high end 120V charger or are running every 12V light/accessory in the trailer during the time you are using the generator, the built in converter will charge as fast as any other dedicated charger. Just plug in the genny and let it take care of things.

I just did a test with an amp meter. My built in converter charges a low, almost dead, battery at about 8 amps, my Yamaha 2400is at about 8 amps and a separate battery charger made by champion about 8 amps. These measurements were taken right when charging started, the current tapers off as the battery charges. So they are all about the same. I just stick with the built in converter.

I would also consider a 2400 watt gen. so it would run your 13,500 air conditioner.
