I've got a few mods planned before hitting the road for the summer.

I tow with a '14 Toyota Tundra, and will add a set of Firestone air bags. With the smaller 189FBR, I didn't bother mounting the bags on it, though I did have them on the Toyota Tacoma that I'd used previously.

The shackles on the leaf springs will get an upgrade to a heavy-duty set, as well as wet bolts for easy maintenance (and fewer squeaks).

Over the bed, I'm planning on swapping in a Maxx Fan ventilator (with remote) to replace the wimpy stock fan. I'll leave the stock one in the bathroom for now, but will likely add a remote-less Maxx Fan back there later. Those things move some air, and are generally quieter than the stock fans. I also like that I can leave them open while on the road, and in any kind of weather.

I'm still debating on whether to swap out the new original tires for a set of Goodyears before I go. I had good luck with them on the previous trailer.

Guy, what brand are the original tires? Ours were some Chinese off-brand -- they wore out fast. I replaced them with Goodyear Marathons. Yes, I know they are also made in China, but they are made to Goodyear specifications. After 25,000 miles, they still look great.

Ihool (?) Vail Sport Radials.

With the Goodyears, I generally would leave them on for two trips around the country. That's coast-to-coast stuff. I'm less worried about fast wear, than I am about one coming apart and messing up the trailer. But I've only had them out on a handful of close-to-home trips since I bought the trailer.

When it comes to tires I am one that believes in changing from ST tires to commercial LT, or regular LT tires.

It's a controversial subject on some forums. I use what works for me on all my trailers (camper, horse, and equipment trailers ), forum controversy be darned !

Have fun on your trip.

I've read lots of posts about tires ... ST vs LT and brands. As for brands, many believe Maxxis tires are the best but everyone has to decide for themselves.
