Hello, my name is Roy and I'm from Cloverdale, B.C. Canada. I'm just south of Vancouver about 10 minutes from the US border.
In 2006 I bought a fun finder 139. I use it when I go to the prairie provinces each fall to fly my falcons at grouse, partridge and ducks. Since it's just me and the dog, the falcons stay in the pickup, the size is just right.
I have had a problem with sway when doing over 100 kph (60 mph) but I don't usually go this fast anyway. Just bought an F250 diesel so towing is no problem.<G>

I am glad you found the site; we can definitely use your experience here!

I believe you are the first Falconer I have ever met! What a cool sport! How many Raptors do you have and what kinds? I imagine the sport of Falconry (SP?) and camping blend together pretty well. I look forward to hearing more on your sport and your adventures!!

Alan, at present I have 3 Harris Hawks, one Peregrine and a hybrid but I'm only looking after them for the Fish and Wildlife branch as the birds were confiscated. I just sent a male (tiercel) peregrine back to Ontario to a breeding project and I will get a young female back in the next month or so.
I usually fly Peregrines but I may get a female Merlin this year as well.
The only game we have to hunt here is ducks, so I go back to the prairies every year to fly different quarry.
I usually go from the middle of September to the middle of October or until the water freezes in the campground and they shut down. It can get pretty cold and snowy but then we can also be hunting in short sleeves, so you never know.

Roy, thanks for the reply! I looked through your website, and I'm impressed with the dedication you have to the sport. I was searching through the photo galleries and I am struck by the beauty of your birds. The one that struck me most was the side shot of Peggy. She is stunning! I think it would be truly awesome to develop a bond with such a beautiful animal. This coming fall I am going to see if I can tag along with someone here in Arizona, get some pictures and see what its like.
