What if any, is the way to remove the hard water crystals that are inside the hot water tank. There is a wand sold to spray the inside but how is the loose particles removed. I have seen some come out when draining the tank but when I feel inside where the anode rod goes there seems to be some remaining. Any advice appreciated.

Nozzle

After carefully removing the anode, I have used a tapered brass nozzle attached to a garden hose. They make some really high pressure brass nozzles – I don't think it's possible to destroy the inside of the tank with too much pressure, but I wouldn't want to find out. I just let the water (and the sediment) run out onto the driveway. It's a messy process, and I'm not sure it's necessary. But I do it anyway.

I do have both items described; the wand cant be used for various reasons but then the cost of purchasing another wont hurt the wallet.

Every year I pull out the anode and the pressure relief valve. I put the pressure relief valve in a cup with water and some CLR to remove the deposits. Then I take a garden hose to pipe thread adapter (available at any hardware store) and thread it into the upper pressure relief valve fitting. Then I hook up and slowly turn on the hose and flush out all the sediment out of the lower anode fitting. I can pretty much remove all the sediment this way. I found the anode lasts about 3 years.
