One last trip

The weather has been so great the wife and I decided to do one last romp. We are going to do the hwy 9 scene in southern utah. Already have reservations at a campground. So one last jaunt before putting it to bed for the winter. We are leaving sunday morning.

Have a great time! If you are going to Zion, and if you ride bikes, bring 'em -- the ride up the canyon is not steep, and the glide down is spectacular.

Also, if you don't want to ride up (I didn't think it was that tough, but the Park Service seemed to suggest it was a "tough" ride), you can just throw your bikes on the front of the shuttle bus, and cruise back.

Back from the trip. Had a great time there, weather was perfect. On the way down stopped in fillmore for some gas. While I was filling up a guy asked me to take a look at my left rear tire on the trailer. Sure as **** is was bald on the outer edge of the tire and we noticed it was starting to come apart. Across the street was a cooper tire store. Drove the trailer over there and took off the bad tire, I asked him to take off the one next to it. Its was bad also, then made him take off all the tires, 3 of the 4 were in really bad shape.

So I wound up buying all new tires plus a spare tire. Thank god that guy asked me to check my tire. After that I sure had piece of mind and we continued on with the trip. Including some pics.

I wonder what caused that wear pattern on the tires?? Maybe ask your local tire guy?

What kind of tires were they? How old were they? And what did you replace them with?

After having had one blowout, several years ago, I now check my tires multiple times EVERY DAY. (Paranoid, yes, I know.) Every time we fill up with gas, and every time we hitch up and leave a campsite. It does not take long -- just a quick walk-around -- but it gives me peace of mind.

You may want to purchase a tire thumper. A wooden dowel with a piece of metal on the end of it. May find one at truck stops or online.

I've tried using those thumpers, but I can't tell the difference in the sound between 45 pounds and 50 pounds. So I use a tire gauge. The disadvantage of the gauge is that I have to bend over or kneel down. That's no problem. But getting up is a problem.

I know what you mean about getting up. Paul uses the thumper in between times.

I have had a lot of RVs and sad to say more than a few tire problems. I now have a TPMS (tire pressure monitor system) I can see the pressure and temp. while driving down the road. They don' tell about tread problems but no more blow out surprises.

Yes I now have a TPMS. I haven't installed it yet since the trailer is put away for the winter. I will keep a close eye on these new tires.

Don't have TOMS in my camper but came in both my vehicle and it's a joke.

The TPMS lights up if only 2# difference and that can happen with the sun shining on one side and the other in the shade.
