We bought our little trailer so we could take our little dog with us on extended trips. We can't leave our little dog at home, but each park we go to says "do not leave animals unattended in RV". Our problem is that we are going to be visiting Dollywood and different sites in TN and we can't take him in with us. How do the rest of you who own pets manage this? He small about 17 lbs and is well behaved and stays in his small kennel inside the trailer when we're sleeping. :?: Thanks for your input.

Sorry don't have a good solution for you. We usually travel with 3 dachshunds, but if we plan on being out & about where we can't take them with us we just leave them at home.

Campgrounds don't want you to leave pets because too many bad things can happen. They may escape from the trailer & become a hazard to themselves or someone else once they're loose. They may bark and annoy other RVr's when left alone. (Experienced this one first hand on our last trip. People left 3 dogs in their trailer who barked & howled the whole time they were gone.) Even well behaved dogs may bark at activities/noises going on outside like kids playing nearby. You might be able to leave your dog and he'd be just fine, but why risk it?

Most campgrunds Ive been too including all KOA's have a no dog left unattended outside rule but allow dogs inside your unit.
I find if I leave the fan on(or A/C) with the Tv at a med volume and the shades pulled down you should be OK.
I had my dog in there 8 hours one time for a wedding and he was fine.

You should be ok at all state and county campgrounds also.

This can be quite a problem at times. We always travel with two small dogs.
On a few occasions we have used local Doggie Day Cares. Used the Internet to locate them ahead of time , then personally checked them out and if they met our needs we used them.
We have also experimented at camp sites by leaving them for 15, 30 minute and 1 and 2 hour time frame times. Have asked a neighbor camper to keep an ear out for them and call us they become a problem, barking, etc.
We have never had any problems doing this.
If none of the above is an option we usually take our dogs with us. The back seat of our truck is a large bed where they have food and water where we can safely leave them under ideal, safe conditions.

I agree with all of Radar's suggestions; we have found lots of great Doggie Daycare's which allow you a worry-free outing. As your dog is kennel trained, that should help you if you do decide to leave them in the trailer. We have left our very curious mini-schnauzer while golfing and always without incident (sometimes we have left the cell phone with other campers and almost always we ask when we get back if he barked, and there has never been an issue). Good luck & happy camping!

Our dogs have long since crossed the bridge, one was 15 and the other 22. They always traveled with us. There were places they could go with us and places they couldn't. When they couldn't, depending on weather conditions, we left the air conditioning on, music, and had the automatic fantastic fan that would come on when the temps got hot should the power go out along with a small fan running on the inverter. We never had a problem.

We have two cats also, 4 and 12 years old. Some trips we go away overnight, leaving a key with a neighbor or the rv park office and the same conditions as with the dogs. Everyone is happy.

I'm not saying bad things can't happen, they can. However, I've never heard of any serious incidents. We take more precautions rving than we do at home.
