Power Awning Motor Failure

Hi everyone,…my first post.

My power awning motor has malfunctioned on my 2011 189FDS. I took it off the trailer and bench tested the motor out of the assembly. Still frozen and will not turn. DC motors are very much a sealed unit.

Even with the part and model no. (made in China of course) I am unable to find a replacement. To order and import the whole motor assembly and gear (taxes, duty, shipping etc.) from USA to Canada will cost about $450.00.

I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation. Were you able to source out a motor only, or did you have to buy the whole head assembly? Can you recommend a good supplier? Other than this, it’s been a great trailer.

That's a drag. There appears to be a couple of RV salvage yards within a few hours' drive of Newmarket -- one in Holland, NY, and one in Mount Brydges -- maybe give them a call and see if they have a used motor??

Welcome to the Forum!!

Just curious, have you checked with the awning manufacturer to see if they have a replacement... it may be a sub-assembly, but who knows, it may be less than the China route??

I'm sorry I am not much help, my awning is the old fashioned manual type... Good luck on finding a replacement...

Hi Folks,...I ordered a good used motor head assembly from Florida off eBay. Unfortunately shipping charges to Canada was $74.00. Still much cheaper than Dometic for a new one. Installed today and going for a five day camp tomorrow. All is well again!
