Roof fan, and extra storage mods

Apparently this line of fans is discontinued, but I was still able to find one. The one I bought was a basic model without the thermostat or reversing switch, I was just happy to have found one, and I saved $65 compared to the deluxe model. I added the reversing switch on the right. It's great being able to exhaust or infeed air even when it is raining, or while we are driving. Air blows in right above the bed, perfect location.

Best mod so far was removing one of the walls in the storage area. This opend up a 2' x 2' area previously only accessible by lifting the bed. The bed only opened 8" and there is also a wall in the way, so this area was essentially unusable. Now I store all our wheel chocks and leveling blocks in this little bull pen, and nothing can slide around. I relocated the light so the entire area is illuminated.

I added an extra light, down low, so my kid can reach it. I replaced the on/off switch with a three position switch for on/off/remote control. The remote position turns on the light with my remote control dimmer, which also turns on the porch light, and a step light.

I added (2) 12V outlets, I put plywood behind the cabinet since the thin decorative board was only held in with staples and would likely come apart when pushing in plugs.

I changed out the on/off switch to a 1 bulb / 2 bulb / off switch

Adding the 12V accessory sockets is something I've been wanting to do for some time but just can't seem to get motivated :shock:

Did you wire them directly to the converter somewhere ? Where did you draw power from for them ?

That's an interesting version of the MaxxAir ... never seen the fan loacated at the air entry like that. When I look up through the interior opening, I didn't see a fan so I thought that it was just a vent, but then read your description of intake and exhaust option so had to look again. Most powered roof vents have the ability to remove a screen from the interior to clean debris and bugs but curious how you would clean that system ? We opted for the super deluxe model with the remote control since we ordered our Fun Finder new. It was pretty expensive but works really slick. When you close the vent, the entire assembly retracts so you don't have the large protrusion sticking up creating drag at speed.

A few other mods I've done...

The 30A fuse holders are terrible, I've had them melt many times before, they aren't really designed for 30A continuous load. I upgraded with a fuse holder designed for 80A with a 30A fuse in it.

Not really a mod, but I thought this was a cool level, it indicates how many inches you need to put under the wheel to achieve level.

Also replaced the water heater anode rod, assuming the previous owner never replaced it, it would be at the 6 year mark.

The screen removes with two screws, but it doesn't collect any dirt since it is fully enclosed, and the fan is sucking dirt away. There is also a screen on the fan outlet, I suppose I could use compressed air to blow debris out, but it hasn't collected anything yet.

The 12v outlets I wired into existing wiring that ran the lights. Since the lights were all converted to LED, those circuits should now have extra capacity, at least enough to charge phones and a laptop.

Nice mods.
I have the Fantastic reversable fan about the bed in my xt276 as ordered from the factory. I have considered addting the 'MAX AIR' roof top cover for it as a rain protective measure.
I eliminated the 12 volt plug in when I replaced the TV antenna from factory to a digital Happy Jack ~ far superior reception now. Besides, had no use for the 12 volt charging port.
