Ever since new, it has been challenging to open and close the larger sliding glass. I assumed (wrongly) that it would become easier with more use. Before I use a wax or silicone grease, I want to know if there is a solution that is commonly used to rectify this problem. If not, I will just open and close the windows instead of lifting weights!

I would like to know too!

2 out of my 3 sliding windows are a real pain. I fear that they were not installed square and the frame is pinching the window.

If the lithium grease and/or wax does not work then I think maybe our sliding windows are not the highest quality. I have the 2008 x189 and have the exact same problem. I cleaned out the slide areas really well and used the lithium grease and it did seem the help somewhat, at first. But then I read that using grease attracts more dirt and grime and ultimately makes the problem worse. So I think the best solution is to keep the track areas clean and free from debris in the first place.

Thank you for the input, Ed and Robert. As soon as I feel like putzing with this condition, I will report any success that I have in freeing up the sliders by using a very small piece of #400 wet/dry sandpaper in the top and bottom channels to increase the dimension of the upper and lower frame.

Another solution might be to actually remove the sliding sections and reduce their vertical dimension but this method would require the removal of the valances, a pita. I would rather be forced to watch 2 straight hours of the shopping channel!

I have one by the dinette area that seems rather sticky. I would be very hesitant to use grease for reason mentioned above ... collects dirt.

I thought I might try some silicone spray and see if that helps. There seems to be plenty of clearance so that is not the problem....just sticky.
