Suggestions Battery /Caulking question for 139

My 139 came with a nice deep cell that seemed to be on last leg. I charged for 2 days and still <%70. Also had Interstate marine batter that just died. My question is I have an electric wench on tongue with no manual way to raise n lower trailer so it runs %100 off battery. Only other uses I would have for battery is while boon docking to run the lights inside trailer and I think the ignition system for gas fridge and furnace start up. Any suggestions on buying new battery. Also I need recommendation for what caulking to use inside the bathroom behind the toilet?? Just regular silicone maybe?
 
I've had great luck with NAPA Group 31 deep cycle marine batteries -- they last for years, as long as they are properly maintained.

Is the toilet itself leaking??
 
The other battery chemistry to consider is AGM. Deep cycle batteries should not be drained beyond 50% whereas the attached article points out that 80% is okay with AGM batteries. For example, if you had a 40 Amp-Hour battery you would be able to use 20 A-Hr from a deep cycle but 32 A-Hr from an AGM.

I replaced the crappy Interstate battery that came in my unit new....died in two years with an Optima and still going strong.
Can't beat an Optima battery IMO.
:)
 
Eagle, just so people know, Optima batteries are AGM which is mentioned earlier as having long life and good discharge characteristics.
 
There are a number of AGM batteries on the market but I prefer Optima brand ... blue top for the camper.
Had an Optima in former pickup I owned and still functioning perfectly after nearly 10 years when sold it.
Replaced two Interstate batteries in another vehicle in two years so have zero respect for Interstate.
Just my experience.
 
If you didn't replace the charger to a 3 or 4 stage one you've wasted your money. Batteries need 3 stages of charging for the correct battery profile. I run a 4 stage for equalization. But mine runs only on solar. 300 watts. It's been that way for 4 years now. I just shovel the snow off in winter.

And I will add that the charger needs to be rated for the type of battery being used. So called 'auto select' ones seem to actually do a poor job on many batteries. It is best to have a selector switch to set for wet cell, AGM/deep cycle or Lithium batteries.

I've never found such a selector switch in any product that requires a battery. ??
 
Both my Schauer and my Chinese EP12M248 battery chargers have a selector switch to configure the charge characteristics to the type of battery. The different chemistries need different voltages.
 
OK .. maybe on battery chargers but how about on vehicles that charge batteries?

I have knowledge that late model Toyota trucks can have a dealer software setting to increase the voltage for AGM batteries and I have read that RAM trucks have the same. Beyond that I have read that Lexus and MB cars can be set for AGM. Historically many GM alternators have offered different internal regulators which matched deep cycle batteries (Marine regulator designation).

That is most interesting as wasn't aware of it. Then again, haven't been in the 'bending wrenches' business for some years.
Since it in the 'dealer software' one could assume only a dealership has the authority/equipment to make any adjustment to the electrical system controls in the vehicle computer.
