The 2012 XT-276 has an outside access door to a storage area that runs the full length of the bed above it. This is the only access door so anything that gets pushed to the back of the storage area is impossible to reach unless you crawl in. :-(

So ~ I cut an inside opening at the foot end of the bed so there is access to the opposite end of the exterior access door. I cut the opening thru the paneling, added some 2x2 framework on the inside of the paneling and made a wood access door. The opening is about 16" high by 20" wide.

Now it's easy to gain access to the storage area from the interior or exterior and don't have to crawl in to reach things.

:)

Very clever solution!! If you camp in either cold or hot weather, you might think about adding insulation on the inside of that access panel area? Not sure if it would accomplish anything, but if you are like me, I am always looking for new projects. ;)

Lets see some picts Eagle. I have thought about doing this on my 276. Right now I have a 3' long aluminum rod with a hook on the end to drag the BBQ and totes to the outside opening.

I'm small enough to crawl in and grab anything I need from that area.

I do wish they would have made it like they did year after I bought mine. Full length with access door on each side.

I'm not so good at pics and no idea how to put them on the computer from the camera.....wife does it & maybe I can convince her.

Will see.
