I am looking at purchasing a 2011 X210 and am concerned about towing it with a 2009 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner. It is a 6 cylinder vehicle but does not have a towing package. Any recommendations? The dealer says it would not be a problem. I live in Virginia so I would be going in some moderate mountains. Skyline drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, Afton Mountain, etc.

I think you're right to be concerned. The Toyota Tacoma has a 5000 lb tow rating according Trailer Life's towing guide. http://www.trailerlife.com/Towing-Guide/2009-Towing-Guide/
The 210 WBS has a dry weight of 3400 lbs and that doesn't include the weight of anything else like propane, water, awning, batteries, etc. or any gear in the trailer or passengers and gear in the truck. It really doesn't take much to get to an additional 1600 lbs. Even if you're conservative you'll probably be right at if not bit over your 5000 lb rating.

Re: weight

The trailer is just the X210 not the X210WBS and the dry weight for it is listed as 3540. Also when I go to the site you listed about the towing weight it says 6500 lbs for the 6 cylinder prerunner unless I am looking at something wrong.

The 6500 lb rating is with the V6 and the tow package. Without the tow package it's 5000 lbs for the V6, unless you have the short bed regular cab, then it's 5100 lbs.

That guide also gives a pretty good description of the typical extras that come with a tow package.

Also the maximum tow rating is only one factor to determine what your vehicle is capable of towing safely. The guide also gives a good descriptiong of how to determine what a tow vehicles actual capacity is.

Actually we towed our X210 WBS with my 2011 Nissan Frontier Pro4-X , 6 speed 4.0L V-6, for two seasons. With a brake controller and reese eq / anti sway hitch , The mighty VQ 4.0 Engine pulled well, and having a manual transmisson let me keep it in the sweet spot. The only limiting factor was the fuell tank . its range was only 300 KM'S .
