We have been doing the trailer/motorhome/5th wheel thing for a bit over 30 years and just got rid of a 40 ft toy hauler and a 3500 Dodge diesel. We plan on a bit more traveling and the V6 Ram and the V24 Cruiser seems like a solid package.
We wanted to keep it safe and enjoyable. There's far too many people with not enough truck hauling too much trailer and we just didn't want to go there.
So fra so good. The Dodge is giving an honest 10+ avg mpg at freeway speed hauling the trailer from Dallas to Arizona. I expect a change when we haul from Arizona back to Alberta, but not too much. The torque curve on the Dodge seems happy with the GVW on the V24. Also the V nose does break the wind a bit better than a flat front.

Dave & Sheri, We Have a Dodge also, it's a 2012 with the 5.7. and the 3.92 gear ratio. Very happy with the towing cap and handling. We tow a 2013 FF 210 at approx 4500lbs and hardly know it's there until hitting a steep grade. On level pavement at reasonable highway speed we get approx 14.5-15 mpg. Of course on mountain roads we're down to 10mpg, but can't complain. So far, so good!

Hi Dave & Sherri,

Long time Ram owner here (4 Rams and a Dakota). We just traded in our 3.6L V-6 Pentastar for the new Eco Diesel 3.0L V-6 Turbo. Last summer we pulled a smaller 3500 lb Cobblestone around the country (8,265 miles) and averaged 14.3 mpg with about 250 miles sight seeing with no TT. We pretty much took small backroads and avoided Interstates so really took her easy. We loved the V-6 gasser but it was 2WD and wouldn't pull our new FF 214WSD up our steep driveway in the wet. Needless to say, we opted for the 4WD with "anti-slip" rear axle as Ram calls it with the Eco. We have another 8,000 miles planned for 2015 as well. The Pentastar dropped to about 12.5 mpg with the new FF 214. It makes almost as much HP as our previous 2010 4.7L V-8 (minus 9 HP) but only produces about 65% as much torque at 1,000 rpm higher so we really like the 420 lbs ft at 2,000 rpm from the diesel.
