Water Pump Running Even With Public Water?

Does anyone know if the water pump should run continuously if the switch is in the 'on' position? I've had two Class A Motorhomes and I could always leave the switch in the "On" position and it would only operate IF the water pressure dropped. ...which was never the case if hooked to public water.

I was hooked to public water the other day and flipped the "Water Pump" switch on and noticed that the pump started up and ran...and ran. Any advice? :?:

Accumulator?

I had intermittent problems with my pump, too -- sometimes it would run for no reason. I installed one of those small Shur-flo accumulators -- very easy project. Problem solved. Pump is now much quieter and draws a lot less power, too.

Not sure what unit you have. On my 2007 189FBR the "City Water" connection bypasses the water pump. Therefore, if mine is connected to "City Water" and since there's no water passing through the water pump, it won't be able to build up the necessary pressure to kick it off and will continuously run. Also probably causing damage to the pump since it is running dry. It sounds like this might be the same with yours. Hope this helps.

If your tank is empty the pump will run even with city water, there is a check valve so the city water can't flow back to the pump or tank. If you have water in your tank, the pump will run until it builds up pressure and then stop. If the city water keeps up with your faucets the pump won't turn on again. If the city water is low pressure or low flow the pump may kick on. Normally there would be no reason to turn on the pump when connected to city water.
