Wife and I started planning a trip to southern arizona, plan on leaving after the 18 of this month.
 
Was planning on going to he mesa area, but the weather is not helping. Maybe next month.
 
yeah, it's pretty cold right now. Hard frost last night, and yesterday's high was only 48. Should be mid 70's next week though!
 
We’ve been traveling I-10 corridor for 7 days. Plan to reach Payson, AZ in 2 weeks. Hope the weather moderates, or we’ll stay around Tucson.

It's all melted today though. And it should be in the 70's next week!
 
Flew to San Tan Valley (very southern part of phoenix) about 2 weeks ago for a 5 day short visit.

Nights were in the low 40's, days mostly in the mid/upper 60's.

Took all thin short sleeve shirts .... but really happy had a thick, zip up hoodie sweat shirt or would have suffered.

It felt colder than here in the upper midwest at well below zero.

Don't care much for AZ, nothing but rocks, sand and cactus. :-(
 
Oh man! I'm sorry your view of Arizona has been negative. I've lived here for almost 50 years. While I'm very tired of the valley (Phoenix metro) because of the heat mostly, Arizona is an incredible state. So diverse and full of incredible beauty. Of course that my opinion. Don't know if you've ever traveled throughout the state or not but only a small portion of the state is "dirt and rocks." Sonoran desert where it's the only place in the world where saguaro cactus grow, unrivaled sunsets, spectacular monsoon storms. Sedona and the red rocks, canyons. Oak Creek Canyon up north to the largest Ponderosa pine forest in the country. The Grand Canyon north of that! There's so much beauty here! You do have to get off I-10 though.

I've been to Arizona many times; prior employment required visits to Phoenix, Tucson & Yuma 4 times a year. Also travels to Tombstone a few times and the Grand Canyon along with some oid Indian ruins, Hoover Dam, Flagstaff, etc. more than once so have seen much, but not all of the state both by air and ground travel.

There are lots of private campgrounds in the area and I've heard good things about Diamond J and Desert Trails although I've never stayed. A bit too close to home to be worthwhile for me. Also check out the state parks, they are really well run and have a great website (AZStateparks.com) where you can check availability by site and see photos of what the site looks like. They will have power and water. Not many have sewer but they all have a dump station. Not sure how long you plan to stay but they limit you to 2 weeks. This time of year they are quite popular so availability might be an issue. Close to Tucson you have Picacho Peak and Catalina. A bit farther out there is Karchner Caverns near Benson, Patagonia Lake near Nogales and Roper Lake Near Safford.
If you have a particular park in mind you can PM me and I'll tell you what I know about it.
And don't worry about snow. While it does occasionally snow in the Tucson area it's really rare. The last time it snowed was about 10 years ago. And it's in the 70s this week.
 
Weather should be really good by then, although you never know for sure this time of year. After all the high last Friday was 37 and this coming Friday is supposed to 78.
