Hello I'm new to this camper and your forum. My camper was neglected, it's an 08', and I've covered it with a tarp and started tearing out part of the ceiling, it's been leaking maybe only from the broken vent fan cover but I'm not sure that's the only place. My question is, should I be starting from the top exterior or does that matter?? I need to find out what caulk to get and where to buy replacement parts. Can you help?? Cheryl

HI Cheryl,

You didn't say what model fun finder it is. I have a 2008 Fun Finder X 189FBR. I can help you if your model is similar. Is it fiberglass or aluminum sided? If it's fiberglass (smooth sided) the ceiling is thin plywood laminated over about 2-3" of styrofoam. Good news is I think it really can't rot, although I suppose I could be wrong.

The caulk I recommend is Proflex RV sealant - it's great! Soapy water will smooth it. You can put it on when it is raining (that's when I've found leaks LOL) https://amzn.to/2TUWHfx It comes in white, clear or some colors.

The caulk Liz recommended is a good one. It's a butyl caulk as opposed to latex. You absolutely do not want to use latex as it is impossible to remove and you can't caulk over it. If you can't find Proflex there are other brands of butyl caulk available such as Dicor. There are also 2 types one for the roof called self leveling and one for the sides & windows called no sag. You can find these online or sometimes at the big box hardware stores.

Oops, I think LJAZ meant don't use silicone caulk. You probably don't want to use latex, its not as durable but it is fairly removable and you can caulk over it. Silicone is neither. Just wanted to put this out here in case you were on the way to the caulking store lol.

It's a X210WBS

. Thanks Liz,. The model is X210WBS. AND yes it's like a wall paper on thin like laminate with styrofoam behind most of it but it's wet and molded so I'm tearing out whatever is wet because the camper stinks like mildew. I'm not sure what to replace it with though. Any ideas? Thanks for your help! Cheryl

Thank you for the help!! I don't want more work than I already have, appreciate it! Cheryl

It was 3,500.00 bucks. However the dealer I took it to built a roof on it better than the original. Took some extensive work but I feel of was worth it.
