I completely replaced my table (for a different reason), but you could have any size tabletop you want, I think. Our trailer has a dinette that becomes a bed -- the table is supported by two removable aluminum poles that fit into thick plastic sockets on the bottom of the tabletop and on the floor.
My old table was made of MDF covered in Formica -- very heavy and thick. So I got a sheet of half inch Baltic birch ply, cut it to shape, and screwed the heavy duty plastic table sockets to the bottom of the new tabletop. In order to keep the screws for the sockets from coming up through the bottom of the thin tabletop, I glued a circle of plywood to the underside of the table before mounting the sockets. I finished the ply with several coats of wipe-on polyurethane -- it looks good and it has held up well. Our new tabletop is lighter weight, easier to handle, and much lighter in color than the old tabletop.
I hope this helps!
