Default 2006 x189fbr water heater

Hi everyone. We are having problem with water heater. When we got it home after buying it last summer we tried it and it heated water on gas ( electric no go). But hot water out of all faucets is brown rusty. Cold fine. I drained and blasted out tank with water multiple times. Just clear. Run hot rusty again. Any ideas??? Tank pooched? Kinda sucks no hot water for dishes and cant shower

Might be time to replace the anode. It's function is to prevent rusting.

It's possible that after you flushed the tank and replaced the anode that there was still rusty water in the lines. Assuming you haven't flushed them already. Just seems like the tank shouldn't rust that fast even if there wasn't an anode at all.

Otherwise My guess would be that the anode is not making proper electrical contact with the tank.

Not sure sure of cause for the rusty water, but I recently had hot water with gas put not on hydro.

Turned out the over heat safety had been tripped (shown in picture) and the switch was broken in the off position.

New switch (not expensive) and voila!

Electric water heater element could be melted. If it's turned on and the tank is drained, that happens. Call the local tool rental place and rent a borescope to inspect the inside of the tank.
