Default Torque specs

I am replacing all four brake assemblies as a whole and all new on my XT276. There are 4 bolts that attach the assemblies to the axle spindle backing plate. Any one know the torque specs of these bolts?

Thanks

I just looked on the LCI website and could not find a specified torque.

In my Dexter manual here in front of me, it shows different torque specs based on the part number of the brake assembly. They don't mention what the fastener size is, but the specs are from as little as "25-50 ft-lb" to as high as "55-80". So apparently these different assemblies must have fasteners from about 3/8" to as big as 1/2".

Looking in my tooling ref book here, a grade five, 7/16" fastener specs at 54 ft-lbs. So if you're adamant about going with a specific torque setting, I would just go with common general specs for the fastener diameter, thread pitch ( almost certainly coarse ), grade ( almost certainly grade 5 ).

....or just do them up "farmer tight...."

Tighten 'em until the lock washers flatten out ....... then give them another 1/2 turn!

That is 'farmer tight'

Whatever you do, don't do it my way -- I usually use the band-aid method. That is where you tighten the nut till the wrench slips, you gash your knuckles, and go get a band-aid.

I have learned my lesson, though -- I now have a box of band-aids right near the wrenches. Saves a lot of time!

Hi Roy,
I am a stickler for correct tore on fasteners... As a kid working in a garage, I broke so many bolts, the shop owner, my Dad, made me torque every bolt and screw I needed to tighten. As an engineer later on, I learned the importance of torque and engine performance... I have a couple books at home that I refer to, but here is an an online engineering site that graciously posted the torques for us, I hope the link works for you.. Thanks to everyone, parts arrive today, weather looks great next few days. I may tackle it one afternoon this week or wait until Saturday.

Only 2 1/2 weeks until we roll out for a 3,000 mile run to Utah and back. I need to get it right before then. The rigs braking power has been bad since the hub fire last year from a bearing failure.
